Managing Director

Richard Bedford is a Chartered Building Surveyor, a Chartered Architectural Technologist, an Accredited Expert Witness and a Category 2 Certified Thermographer.

With over 36 years' of uninterrupted experience working within the  construction industry, both in the UK and overseas, Richard can offer an exceptional level of knowledge and experience in building surveying, building thermography and architectural technical design.

He acts as an Assessor for The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors under the AssocRICS Building Surveying Pathway, and he also volunteers as a Building Surveying Mentor for those candidates undertaking their Assessment of Professional Competence who wish to become Chartered Surveyors.

His working life began in 1988, when for 10 years he worked under the direction and tuition of his father, Trevor Bedford RIBA, Chartered Architect. During this time, he acquired many valuable skills as an architectural technician using pen and ink.

In 1998 to 2000, he worked on 'Atlantis', a casino and hotel resort located on Paradise Island in The Bahamas. During this time he gained practical experience as a site manager for an international project management team.

Since returning to the UK in 2000, he has worked within a number of professional architectural and surveying practices across the UK, and as a result of dedicated studying, has obtained Chartered Building Surveyor status (Fellow - FRICS) and also  a Chartered Architectural Technologist (Fellow - FCIAT).

Most recently, Richard has developed a passion for building thermography, becoming fully certified to Category 2 level, thereby allowing him to undertake thermographic building inspections and importantly, to produce formal reports. A true advocate of building thermography, he has published a number of articles and also developed his own LinkedIn Group - 'Building Thermographer'. This group continues to attract a steadily growing membership, as surveyors and other property professionals begin to embrace thermography within their work.

Richard is also a fully certified and qualified commercial drone operator to A2 C of C certification, meaning that he can offer commercial drone work to his clients, including Drone Thermal Imaging, a new and exciting service now offered as part of Richard Bedford Surveying's existing building thermography services.

This background and unique working history has now allowed Richard to offer a wide range of professional surveying services to his clients, beyond that offered by many other surveyors.  Along with a great deal of passion, this work is undertaken with transparency, integrity and enthusiasm at its heart.

In his spare time, Richard enjoys photography and is an agency bird photographer for the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB). His work is represented on their commercial photographic library RSPB IMAGES. He is often to be seen out and about photographing wildlife with his partner, Amanda, in Suffolk, Norfolk, Cornwall & beyond.
